These pictures were taken at last year's Salmon Classic Invitational at Roche Harbor. This could be you THIS YEAR holding the winning fish worth $10,000 if you already got your ticket for the event which starts this Thursday, February 7th.
Even if you don't catch the winning fish -- it is still a lot of fun trying!
Be sure to watch out for pictures of this year's event - I am sure Chairperson Debbie Sandwith will be running around with camera in hand getting pictures of the catches! Get that gear together anglers! This just might be YOUR year! ______________________________________________________________

A few pictures of some of the people who helped to put on such an exciting derby at Roche Harbor last year. Pictured at 5:30 a.m. in the morning the first day of last year's event are the Patrol Boat Crew (on the left) who go out on the water making sure everyone is safe and checking their catches. Pictured on the right are the smiling ladies who help get you registered and answer any of the questions you might have. Not bad for 5:30 a.m. in the morning ladies! This year is going to be even better - if that's possible! ____________________________________________________________________
January 23, 2008 Coming soon! With all the tickets sold so early for this special Roche Harbor event - it is bound to be a lot of fun! Anglers have been busy preparing just the right equipment to try their luck at catching the infamous largest salmon worth $10,000.00. He's out there - just waiting! If you are one of the lucky holders of a Fishing Derby Entry Pass with questions about the event - it would be good to contact Debbie Sandwith at 360-378-5562. Another very important person attending the Seattle Boat Show next week, that we neglected to mention, is Marina Fuel Dock Manager, Colleen Carlton. Colleen has been attending the Seattle Boat Show for many years along with Kevin, her husband, and Assistant Harbormaster, Troy Buck and knows all the ropes! We could not forget to mention her attendance as she is a very important member of the Marina Team and would love you to stop by the booth (Concourse 3328) and say hello! Don't forget - the Seattle Boat Show will be open from January 24th thru February 2nd and Colleen will be there for six of those days! Way to go Colleen! _______________________________________________________________________

So - look who's getting ready to go to the Seattle Boat Show! Why - it's our Marina stars - Kevin and Troy ... and company! If you are planning on going to the Boat Show in Seattle starting January 24th thru February 2nd at the Qwest Field Event Center - be sure to check out the Roche Harbor booth at Concourse 3328 and say hello! Kevin and Troy have been regulars at the show for many years and they enjoy meeting up with many of the boaters who visit Roche Harbor during the summer. You might be interested in reading a small article that mentions Roche Harbor on the Seattle Boat Show website. It talks about a product that would help in "making docking a breeze at Roche Harbor on 4th July weekend". By the way, if you haven't already sent in your application for the Moorage Reservation Lottery for 4th July weekend - you have until February 11th to get your entry form in to the marina. As much as Kevin and Troy would love to have you all for this big celebration - it is becoming impossible, and they hate turning anyone away - therefore, this year, July 4th moorage will be handled through a lottery. So get your application in so you stand a fair chance! In the meanwhile - see you at the Boat Show!

If you were hoping to squeeze in just one more spa treatment before Afterglow Spa closes for the month of January, you had better hurry! January 1st will be the last day open for a few weeks. But that's okay - because when it opens up again in February you will have some great specials to choose from. Troy Casey, Spa Director, has come up with some favorites: how about a "Couple's Retreat" where your session begins with a glass of champagne and a luxurious eucalyptus whirlpool bath for two, followed by a couples side by side massage. Or maybe a "Couple's Pedicure" with a glass of champagne to start off with - followed by first class treatment for his and her feet! This is a good one... how about learning basic massage techniques from the Spa's skilled practitioners and practice on your partner following expert guidance - fascinating! If this sounds like a fun "project" in February - give the Spa a call - even though it is not open during January, we will have staff managing your phone calls so you can book your appointments. You can call the Spa directly at 360-378-9888 and of course, you can always email them at afterglow@rocheharbor.com

The Roche Harbor Christmas Block Party put on by Bill Shaw, Food & Beverage Director, was deemed a success, as attendees ate grilled holiday sausages to warm themselves after watching the boats sail around the harbor. A total of 16 vessels paraded around the bay with their colorful lights reflecting over the water. Carol songs were sung and a good time had by all. Missing this year were the Victorian costumes that had been worn for the last 6 years or so, as the event has become a more modern event. Things change - I guess!

November filled with "Doubt" We have a special treat coming up for you - starting this week. San Juan Island's professional theatre troupe, Island Stage Left, is set to open the award-winning drama "Doubt" by John Patrick Shanley. The play will run Thursdays through Sundays -- November 1st through December 1st -- right here at Roche Harbor in the Pavilion. In 2005 "Doubt" was a smash hit on Broadway, earning both the Pulitzer Prize and a Tony Award. Set in a Catholic School in 1964, "Doubt" explores what happens when a hard-headed, strict principal -- a nun named Sister Aloysius (Suzan Campbell-Webster) -- comes to believe that a priest (Father Flynn played by Daniel Mayes) has molested a male student. As one New York review said, the play "addresses issues of great meaning to many: faith, truthfulness, determination to do what's right at any cost."
And it doesn't offer easy answers. "Doubt" invites discussion and deliberati Audience members who wish to discuss the play with the actors and director are invited to remain after the show on Fridays and Saturdays for post-performance discussions. The subject matter may be inappropriate for those under age 12. Other actors in the production are Joan Benney as Sister James and Paula Miller as Mrs. Muller. Times for performances are 7:30 p.m. on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays and 4:30 p.m. on Sundays. There will not be a performance on Thanksgiving Day. Of course, there is no charge for admittance, however, donations for Island Stage Left are so very greatly received. Let's keep this wonderful professional theatre troupe going! Treat your "significant other" to a night out on this end of the island for good theatre -- start off the evening with dinner in McMillin's Dining Room followed by this production. And if you really want to do the night up royally - take advantage of the Dinner Theatre Package we have going on. Enjoy dinner, the theatre and a night in one of our luxury Quarryman Hall Suites - see our "Packages and Specials" section for more details. ______________________________________________________________________
October 24, 2007 This is what shopping with style on the island looks like! This is the new Dominique's House where you can shop for your home furnishings and accessories. Dominique Soracco, owner and manager of the store, adds her flair for fashion to the selection of items available for purchase. Located in the new Quarryman Hall Building - it is a great place to shop for those hard to find items that you might want for your Christmas purchases. Hours of operation starting next week -- will be open weekends only --Friday, Saturday and Sunday each week through December, and closed the month of January. Be sure to stop by some weekend and check it out!

Do you remember the love story we told you about earlier this summer of a romance at Roche Harbor between two of our Romanian workers - Alex and Christina? They have been coming to Roche Harbor to work during the summers for several years now, and it was this summer that they were married in an informal ceremony at Roche Harbor with promises to their families back home that they would have a traditional formal ceremony when they got back to Romania. Roche Harbor Madrona Bartender Jimmy Farrell was in attendance and has sent us this wonderful account of what happened...
The Wedding Day of Alex and Christina in Romania "First thing the morning of the wedding we were all at Alex's parents house from where we proceeded to 'pick up' Christina and her family and form a procession to the church. The church is Orthodox and is over 250 years old. Lots of local people on hand to sing and wish the couple well!! The ceremony lasted about 45 minutes and was very colorful. Photographs - then on to the reception which was in a great restaurant in the old city of Brasov. There was a group of traditional folk dancers who were dressed in traditional clothes and performed some wonderful old dances from the area. There were several food courses, all of which were delicious, served at different times throughout the evening. Lots of alcohol of course, especially Palinka, a potent homemade form of Moonshine or Poteen as we call it in Ireland - lethal stuff!!!! There was a live band and a DJ and lots of dancing. At one point in the night Alex was 'kidnapped' and Christina had to negotiate a ransom for his release; she had to drink a large palinka and do a dance for everyone on one of the tables. Alex was duly returned covered in kisses but ot
From all your friends at Roche Harbor.
It's so good to see you guys (Simona and Roxanna)- we really missed you this summer!
We thank you for sharing these lovely pictures with us, Jimmy, and hope you had a great time in the Irish Pub you were off to!!
